IndoChine Waterfront, drinks and dancing at Le Supper Club

IndoChine at Singapore's Waterfront provides spectacular views paired with spot on service, perfect for an intimately romantic meal. The food was surprisingly good, with the global stronghold IndoChine as a chian has established I had my doubts prior to dinner.

Goi Tom Bo Nuong ~ pure genius! Spicy Shrimp and Beef Salad with coriander seeds, dried chilli, fresh garlic, lemon juice, black pepper, cucumber and mint. The perfect dish for Singapore's stifling hot weather.

Easing into the evening gently we decided to sample typical Vietnamese starters, rice paper rolls or Goi Chuon, with poached prawns, lettuce, bean sprouts, chives, mint leaves and rice vermicelli and a round of fresh oysters.

Singapore's restaurant wine lists tend to begin with prices set at S$ 60 upward for an average Aussie vino, so we opted to bring our own: a bottle of Bordeaux (a steal at duty free) and a bottle of Jacob's Creek Chardonnay at corkage of S$40 instead.

The main course impressed notably with a sliced venison stir-fry, Kimao with long bean, bamboo shoots, hot basil leaves, fresh green peppercorn and sprinkled with rice wine and the
Ca Chem Hap Chanh, steamed sea bass flavoured with lemon juice, spring onions, ginger, coriander, basil and chilli. Both were outstanding.

While dinner was truly enjoyable, desserts were disappointing to say the least. Some things are better left alone, and Creme Brule` is definitely one of those things! Adding lemongrass to that equation only spells disaster. The fruit coulis nor the ice-cream helped to lift this dish, someone call 911! The 'Special custard steamed in a pumpkin served with vanilla ice cream' wasn't redeeming either and I left the restaurant longing for a simple bowl of chilled coconut milk with water chestnuts. Why not keep it authentically simple huh?

With dinner out of the way it was time to check out Singapore's night-life heading to ultra-cool SupperClub. Extremely picky about who they admit, be sure to dress upmarket, chic-sexy and be prepared to dig deep into your pockets where spending is concerned. The club features funky-electronica and beds as super modern lounge compartments. It is smart to reserve one ahead of time if you have a big group.
